ENGLISH CLUB ACTIVITIES

The English Club aims to promote the use of English and to provide students with opportunities to use English purposefully. Its activities are student-centered and often involve students’ participation in external competitions, making the learning experience fun, dynamic and authentic. Activities of English club will be conducted on every working Saturdays after the prayer Session in the Prayer Hall among the students. The participants will be appreciated and rewarded for their active participation

Activities Conducted

1. Game : “JAM: Just A Minute”

Ms. Jeba Nelcy, the member of the English club conducted the English game called JAM: Just A Minute among the students of all the batches after the prayer session. She introduced the game to the students stating that a prefixed word will be given to the participants and they have to think for a minute on the topic given and present in front of the others. She also quoted that the best performers will be awarded at the end. For the same, she called upon volunteers from each batch. Four participants volunteered were given with topics such as Peace, Love, Care and A Nurse. The participants brought out their best in spite of various obstacles. The students felt confident after the session. The session ended gracefully with thanks at 09:15am.

2. Game- “Pros & Cons”

Mrs. Shyji, the member of the English club conducted the English game called Pros and Cons among the students of all the batches after the prayer session. She introduced the game to the students stating that a prefixed topic will be given to the participants and they have to think for 2 minutes on the topic given and to perform a role play in front of the others in English. She also stated that the best performers will be awarded and appreciated at the end. For the same, she called upon volunteers from all the batches and she divided them randomly in two equal groups. The participants of both the groups were given with topics such as Demonetization and Jallikattu. The participants brought out their best and presented beautifully. The students felt confident after the session. The session ended gracefully with thanks at 09:15am.

3. Game- “JAM: Just A Minute”

Mrs. Divya Grace S, the Secretary of the English club conducted the English game called A Secret Word among the students of all the batches after the prayer session. She introduced the game to the students stating that a prefixed word will be given to the participants and they have to think for two minutes on the topic given and to give a talk in front of the others for a minute without revealing the topic given and the audience belongs to the particular group has to find out the specific word. She also quoted that the best performers will be awarded at the end. For the same, she called upon volunteers from each batch. Four participants volunteered were given with topics such as Disaster, Law, Rules and Government. The participants brought out their best and the audience responded well. The students felt so confident after the session. The session ended gracefully with thanks at 09:15am.

5. Game- “What is the Question?”

Mrs. Divya Grace S, the Secretary of the English club conducted the English game called “What is the Question?” among the students of all the batches after the prayer session. She introduced the game to the students by forming two teams (three will work, but two seems to add just the right amount of competitive tension). The game was explained to them with few examples of answers in search of question and planned to ask, 'What's the question?', and get students to correctly say the corresponding questions for the answer. Two players, one from each team was asked to come in front and the students stood side-by-side.An answer to a question was read and asked, 'What's the question?' The fastest player to respond wins a point for her/his team. She also quoted that the best performers will be awarded at the end. The students felt so confident, enjoyed the game and participated well. The session ended gracefully with thanks at 09:15 am.

6. Game- "Spell Out Loud”

Mrs. Divya Grace S, the Secretary of the English club conducted the English game called “Spell Out Loud” among the students of all the batches after the prayer session. She introduced the game to the students saying that at first, one volunteer from a batch should come forward. There after the contestants will be given with 5 words each and they have to spell it out and the maximum number of scores will be rewarded at the end. The participants didn’t come forward so Ms. Divya Grace called the students randomly by their respective role numbers. Ms. Ashina from I year, Ms. Chitra from II year, Ms. Ashmi from III year and Ms. Ashwini from IV year came forward and the I year student was asked with the words such as Enthusiasm, Sculpture, Trojan Horse, Dictaphone, Gate Crashes to spell out. The II year students were given with words like Taconite, Horse-Laugh, Batteries, Anthem and Antinovel to spell out. The III Year students got words like Culminate, Jalopy, Kinetic, Label and Gadget. Similarly IV year students had words like Gasoline, Marsh, Sympathy, Fawn and Yogurt. The students participated actively and the prizes were given to both the students from II and III year that scored 3 and 4 points respectively. The session ended gracefully with thanks at 09:15 am.
